Biblical Studies I is a course offered at Springs Church via Springs Bible College in Winnipeg, NB. The session I attended ran through 2022. This document contains the scripture verses and study notes specified as notable in the study guide given for test 2. Notes are placed in the order indicated on the study guide.

Unit 4: Prayer

The Nine Kinds of Prayer

  1. Faith
  2. Dedication
  3. Commitment
  4. Praise & Worship
  5. Agreement
  6. Praying in the Spirit
  7. United Prayer
  8. Intercessory Prayer
  9. Supplication

Each of these prayers can be used for certain situations:

  1. Faith: For personal issues: health, marriage, finance.
  2. Dedication: For questions or uncertainty: “Your will be done, not mine.”
  3. Commitment: Cast your anxieties on God. With God watching over you, you need not fear.
  4. Praise & Worship: Softens hearts so the Word can take root.
  5. Agreement: Another believer joins you in prayer when you are weak and prayers go unanswered, to grant you their strength and bring the prayer into fruition.
  6. Praying in the Spirit: Praying according to Holy Spirit’s lead. Praying in tongues. Meaning is revealed later or by an interpreter.
  7. United Prayer: Praying in a group with common purpose.
  8. Intercessory Prayer: Praying on behalf of a non-Christian, standing in the gap for them, as Jesus does for you.
  9. Supplication: Praying the Word of God over somebody, using the Sword of the Spirit, proclaiming truth.

Unit 5: Holy Spirit and Gifts

Personality Attributes of the Holy Spirit

  1. Mind – Intercession for the will of the Saints according to the will of God.
    Romans 8:27
  2. Will – Holy Spirit works through all and distributes tasks as he will.
    1 Corinthians 12:11
  3. Feeling – Do not grieve, Holy Spirit prepares you for redemption!

Seven Symbols of the Holy Spirit

  1. A Dove – Gentleness, purity, peace
  2. Fire – Zeal, purification, boldness, purging
  3. The Wind – Power, refreshing, purifying
  4. Water – Life, cleansing
  5. A Seal2 – Ownership, guarantees, responsibility
  6. The Earnest/Deposit – To secure a legal claim, a guarantee
  7. Oil – For anointing, to be set apart, authenticated

Fruits of the Spirit

The higher-level categories:

    1. Love – The spiritual bond between Man and Christ
    2. Joy – Expressed as “Life in Christ” or “Life in the Spirit”
    3. Peace – A tranquility not of this world
  2. Fruit of Relationship

    1. Longsuffering – Patience & slowness in avenging wrongs
    2. Gentleness – Mercy in action – integrity, kindness
    3. Goodness – Uprightness of heart, benevolence
  3. Fruit of the Attitude

    1. Faith – Conviction, belief without proof
    2. Meekness – Patient suffering of injuries, restoring brothers while battling or avoiding the temptation yourself
    3. Temperance – Self control

Gifts of the Spirit

The Gifts of the Spirit fit into three categories:

  1. The Gifts of Utterance
  2. The Gifts of Power or Operation
  3. The Gifts of Revelation or Inspiration

The gifts within those categories:

  1. The Gifts of Utterance
    1. Prophecy – Supernatural utterances in a known tongue
    2. Tongues – Like prophecy but in a spiritual language
    3. Interpretation of Tongues –Renders tongues intelligible to listeners
  2. The Gifts of Power or Operation
    1. Faith – A desire spoken by God comes to pass
    2. Working of Miracles – Natural laws are suspended for believers
    3. Gifts of Healings – Heal the sick and destroy the work of the Devil in the body
  3. The Gifts of Revelation or Inspiration
    1. Wisdom – Concerns divine purpose in the future
    2. Knowledge – A word of insight, unknowable/not obvious to the believer, the knowledge is of the past
    3. Discerning of Spirits – Perceive spirits, good and evil

    • Sent IN the anme of Christ
    • Come to make Christ real
  3. The Comforter
    • Advocate
  4. Holy Spirit
    • He implements divine holiness in the believer
  5. The Holy Spirit Of Promise
    • Promised the blessings of Abraham
  6. The Spirit of Truth
    • Holy Spirit is commited to truth
  7. The Spirit of Life
    • Provides the believers spiritual life
  8. The Spirit of Glory
    • Imparts the beauty of the Lord upon the believer
  9. The Spirit of Adoption
    • Believers are the adopted children of God and receive the Spirit of Adoption
  10. The Spirit of Grace
    • Through Holy Spirit, God ministers and draws people to Jesus
  11. The Spirit of Wisdom
    • Holy Spirit is wise, tactful, informed, thoughtful, sensitive, relevant, resourceful.
